Lacking good and proper Nutrition is a major Trigger for Seizures
Correct nutrition is needed to keep the cells within our bodies working at optimum level so they can defend us against disease.

Have you ever had your Doctor ask you during a visit ‘are you eating well?’ and wondered why on earth such a seemingly out of the way question was asked when you were there to discuss your seizure activity with him. The answer may give your Doctor a clue to better treating your condition.
There are many times, especially if you suffer from Grand Mal seizures, that your memory span is so short that by the time you reach the kitchen you have forgotten what you went there for. Should you happen to remember, you may then not work out how to go about making that food item even though you have a craving for it at the time. This can happen. Our brain is very precious and we need to do everything we can to protect it. Once it stops working then everything eventually ceases.
Another example of a lack of appetite could be caused because you have a chewed up tongue due to a Seizure you have experienced… does your food taste good then? Probably not, so you will refuse to eat your meal and therefore not receive the required daily nutrition.
You may also be so dizzy from taking your medication that you are now in a deep fog and cannot get off the couch. Someone else has to bring you that food. Or today you have such a migraine that should you eat anything it is liable to come up along with the meds you have just taken. And once again you are not getting the nutrients you need to keep a healthy Immune System. Going without food and then not getting the necessary nutrients is a major Trigger for seizures and another seizure may be just around the corner. And so the vicious cycle continues. Your doctor did not explain to you why eating properly was vital for you he merely asked the question. You ate when you could and that is all you knew about it.
Then there is the speedy trip to the grocery store. What is in that shopping cart? Is it the brain food that can help our Epilepsy rather than hinder it? Many foods that we do buy fall far short of all the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals needed for our body to survive on a daily basis. And then there is the storing, the processing and all the preservatives that go into our foods that compromise our successful fight in helping reduce our Epilepsy seizures.
We have no choice but to live in our present environment. Our bodies are affronted daily by excessive production of free radicals caused by our polluted environment, stressful lifestyles, and over-medicated society. Many Medications deplete our Immune System of the Nutrients required for it to do the job of fighting disease and thus leaving us more and more prone to ill health.
People who suffer Epilepsy are finding they frequently get ill and it is a sign their immune system is not working correctly and has been very badly depleted. This is when seizures are more likely to occur with continued frequency. We therefore have to combat this with the correct ratio of nutrients to protect and rebuild our immune system for it to be able to work at its optimum level. Proper nutrition is needed to keep all our cells within our body working.
Simply because of our lifestyle this generation must contend with more free radicals than any previous generation. There are a certain number of free radicals produced when you simply metabolize your food. However, there are many things that increase the number of free radicals you produce:
Excessive Stress
Excessive Exercise
Pollutants in our air, food, and water
Sunlight
Radiation
Medication
Cigarette smoke
When you produce more free radicals than you can manage, you create what is known as oxidative stress. Oxygen is essential for life itself; however, it is also inherently dangerous for our existence. The same process that causes a cut apple to turn brown or metal to rust also causes your body to rust inside. This process of oxidative stress is the underlying cause of the overwhelming majority of chronic degenerative diseases.
Oxidative stress is literally the dark-side of oxygen and this has now been shown beyond any shadow of doubt via medical research to be the root cause of over 70 chronic degenerative diseases. Diseases like heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s dementia, macular degeneration, lupus, MS, and the list goes on and on. However, we are not defenceless against this process. Antioxidants have the ability to neutralize a free radical. Balance is the key. You need to have enough antioxidants available to handle the number of free radicals produced. Then you are able to prevent oxidative stress from occurring.
Optimizing our own natural antioxidant defense system is vitally important when it comes to protecting the cells in our brain against our enemy oxidative stress. We must always focus on prevention and protection. Once a brain cell is destroyed it is not readily replaced.
Keeping in mind these two main concepts if we are going to have any effect on decreasing the incidence of seriously disabling diseases: In the first instance, we must use a cocktail of antioxidants that will work in synergy while readily crossing over the blood brain barrier. Then secondly, we need to avoid any excessive exposure to heavy metals and the other toxins in our environment. Balance is the key. Working on decreasing our exposure to toxic elements as well as building up our body’s natural defense system by providing enough antioxidants to neutralize the free radicals produced. Cellular nutrition is simply providing ALL nutrients to the cell at optimal levels
Oxidative stress can be controlled and our health will be protected. Cellular nutrition is about health, not disease.
"Attacking" the root cause of chronic degenerative disease is true preventive medicine. “When physicians take advantage of the most tremendous healing asset, the host--our bodies, and support it rather than denying its importance in the healing process, amazing clinical improvement is possible.” Dr. Ray Strand www.drraystrand.com
By applying these same principles, you who are in good health can decrease the risk of developing these chronic degenerative diseases.
