GRANT'S EPILEPSY STORY

No more Seizures, no more Brain Fog

As a child and youth Grant was a normal healthy boy, keeping fit and active by training and competing with his Swimming Club and Judo Club for many years. At the age of 18 he joined the Army and earned himself a trophy for “Best at Physical Training”. He loved the Army lifestyle but almost 3 years into his chosen career he was diagnosed with Epilepsy after having had his first Seizure while on an Army bush training exercise in outback Australia.

As is usual with any Seizures the diagnoses that it is in fact Epilepsy is not made till you have had several seizures and many and varied tests have been conducted. These Tests took about 6 months for the Doctors to verify that Grant’s seizures were in fact Epilepsy. And to him it was certainly devastating news as this meant the end of Grant’s Army Career and he was thus medically discharged.

Moving back to his home State Victoria, he then had to go undergo all the procedures once again with Doctors and Neurologists, and often it is like searching in the dark not knowing what happens next, how to cope with this condition, what medications would help and in what combinations. All the time also trying to recover each time from the seizures. Then the worry of where they may occur next and hoping that he would be in a safe environment when they did occur. The severity of the seizures which saw him taken by Ambulance to Hospital for several days and with his family not knowing where he was and then Grant not remembering anything afterwards, not even what his family looked like.  And the concern when he had a seizure while having a shower and fell through the glass shower screen which shattered on impact. All this takes its toll not only on the person suffering with Epilepsy but also on the whole family.

In desperation I decided to really encourage Grant to try the “Nutritional Program ” I had read about on the Internet and which had been suggested to me by some family members. I did my Research and was quite impressed. Quite a few Doctors, and others I know of, either with Epilepsy or other Health issues, were having great success using this System in particular. What did we have to lose as the way Grant felt after each Seizure was no way to want to live the rest of our lives. It takes a few minutes for a Seizure to happen but many days to recover from it.

I have learnt that one thing for sure with Epilepsy is that everyone has different Triggers for Seizures in Epilepsy. It is so unpredictable, and what works for one might not work for another. But what is basically important for everyone is to stay away from alcohol, caffeine and salt. Eat at regular times during the day and make sure the food you do eat is healthy. Keep regular hours of sleep and get the required number of hours, and try to reduce STRESS.  Grant has to take all of these things into account daily.

Mostly we tend to forget that Grant has Epilepsy as he has been Seizure free over the last 4 years. He has heaps of energy and leads a full and productive life both in the workplace and socially. He is a volunteer with several community services and regularly works out at the Gym. As well as backpacking with groups or on his own during his overseas holidays.

Don’t get me wrong, Grant still has Epilepsy but his quality of life has improved enormously. He never forgets to take his supplements because he knows that in the end they, along with good eating habits and lifestyle are what has made such a difference to his daily life. And he has been able to drop his Medication down to a much lower but still effective dose.

How do I know so much about Grant? Because I am his Mum and my name is Maraika.  It is so distressing to see your child, no matter what their age, having a seizure. And how often as a Mother  you wish you could take their place. It has been said by many, but it is so true, - it is impossible to explain properly to anyone else what having Epilepsy feels like, and a non-sufferer  may have sympathy but can not have empathy.  But this disease affects the whole family, doesn't it?

Now he tells me regularly that he is so thankful to me for introducing him to this System . And I could see week by week that he was getting better and better, he has lost that vague look that happens with short-term memory loss due to the Seizures, no more glassy eyed look and headaches, no more brain fog and exhaustion. And no more Depression. Grant has been able to get on with his life. After many trials this time it was the real thing.

I was so impressed by what I have seen happen with Grant, and others like him, that I have completed a Diploma course as a Nutritionist. If you have Epilepsy and you are reading this, don't hesitate to start this System . I am convinced it will help make a big difference to your condition and the after effects of Anti Epileptic Drugs (AEDs). It takes a little time but you will feel so good in the end you won’t be able to believe the difference it has made to your quality of daily life.
